MATHEMATICA INSTALL --- SERVER ACTIVATION
Note: To use Mathematica with the license server, an Ethernet or wireless connection using Eduroam is needed. For off-campus use, VPN (Virtual Private Network) is required.]
For Macs:
Double-click on the Mathematica dmg file located in the Mathematica folder to start the download
Drag the Mathematica application into the Applications folder
Double-click the Extras package to install
Mathematica should now be in your Applications folder, double-click on it to open it.
Select “Other ways to activate”
Connect to a network license server
Enter the license server name: swlicense4.oit.umn.edu
Click Activate button
For Windows:
Download the Mathematica zip file located in the Mathematica folder
Go to your Downloads folder and right-click on the Mathematica file you just downloaded
Click on Extract All. Your files will be extracted to your Downloads folder.
Make sure the “Show extracted files when complete” box is checked
Click Extract
A new window will open, click on the setup application file
Click Run, then continue to click through the “Next” buttons until the setup is ready to install.
Click “Install”
Click Finish
A window will pop up asking for the Activation Key, click on the “Other ways to activate” box.
Select “Connect to a network license”
Enter “swlicense4.oit.umn.edu” for the server name and click Activate button

Note: Requires a network connection, but after that you do not need to be online to use Mathematica

Download Mathematica:
Mathematica can be downloaded from https://user.wolfram.com/ If you have not yet created a Wolfram account as described in the next section (Activate), create that account now; you will then be able to download Mathematica through that account.
2) MATHEMATICA END-USER INSTALLATION, INDIVIDUAL ACTIVATION
Activate:
Users request their own activation key through our organization's End-User Activation Key Request Form: https://user.wolfram.com/portal/requestAK/78f373e8003adaf7cce224fe2118f0fedcf53051
If you do not already have a Wolfram ID, create an account using your University of Minnesota e-mail address.
On the Activation Key Request Form, select 'Single machine'.
Initial activation requires a network connection, but after that you do not need to be online to use Mathematica.
