This demonstration shows that when a stereo disparity change is put in conflict with a moving cast shadow, the shadow information for depth can win.
The top button will show a movie in which disparity and cast shadow information are consistent. The bottom button shows the reverse. E.g., for a given half cycle of the animation, cast shadow information will indicate an increase in relative depth, while at the same time the disparity change will indicate a decrease in depth. In order to experience this for yourself, you have to be able to cross your eyes (for the Reverse movie ), so that the image of the left green square is centered in your right eye, and the right square centered in your left eye.
